“For as long as I can remember, I was always complaining that I was so overweight. With all of that complaining, I didn’t have any intentions to make any changes to my lifestyle. In June 2018 a friend invited me to join her workout group of just women that was conveniently, close to my house. Well after being told “tomorrow’s the last day to sign up for the challenge”... I said ok, I’ll try it.

That first day, I walked in so terrified of the unknown. I didn’t know anyone and I didn’t know what would be expected of me. It was such a relief when Coach Latona saw me and welcomed me by name and explained the process. To tell you that I got my butt kicked, is an understatement, but I did it. I joined the private Facebook group and kept on coming back.

My intentions were always to get through the 8-week challenge and be done with it. I didn’t even plan to change my eating habits. But what can I say? Reading about what the others were eating and their meal preparations influenced me to at least eat more salads than burgers - and that’s what I did. Fast forward to the end of the 8-week challenge, not only could I keep up with the rest of the group, I could move more easily and I was down 20 pounds!

I couldn’t believe the transformation that others saw in me, I guess being my own worst critic, I still couldn’t see any changes in myself other than what the scale said. I kept on going though - I pushed through 2, sometimes 3 classes a day and by December I reached my starting weight loss goal of 45 pounds.

This group of coaches that we have are amazing! They always look for ways to gain more knowledge so that we can get different types of workouts and nutrition plans. I don’t think that any of us have truly been “on a diet” rather we choose to make lifestyle changes to better ourselves. They are there to talk about our plans and figure out what changes will help us.

Being a part of this group has been life changing for me. When I started, I was recently separated, had high blood pressure, migraines, pains in my whole body and pre-diabetic. All of that is now gone!

We are a group of all races and backgrounds with one common goal: becoming the best person we can be. Every woman in this group has been there to listen to my complaints, been a shoulder to cry on, been proud of my successes and lifted me up through my downfalls the same as I have been for them. We have formed such strong friendships that we now consider ourselves one big happy family.

I’m still a work in progress and I have a short way to go to reach my ultimate weight loss goal of 75 pounds but it will happen. I can honestly say that without Get It Girl Fitness, I wouldn’t be where I am today and know that I can reach my goals.”

“I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life and always thought working out was beyond my desire and abilities. I never thought I’d find a workout group as welcoming, supportive, motivating and fun as Get It Girl Fitness. The owner, Latona Whitaker or as we fondly call her Coach LT, pushes you to your limit and then makes you go above it. She also has a core of veteran members who assist newer folks with the different techniques, form, and encouragement. I love the variety of classes offered from boot camps, hip hop step, cardio dance and summertime outdoor activities. I religiously attend all of them, which is something I wouldn’t have dreamed of in a million years. The FB support page is another unexpected benefit. All of the members are constantly checking in with healthy meal choices, celebrating fitness achievements, sharing tips and even just having a good laugh here and there. I’ve made some amazing new friends along the way.

And with all that being said, I am pretty dang proud of not only what I’ve lost (40 lbs!) but more importantly, what I’ve gained. I feel stronger and ready to take on physical challenges I would have never considered before. I feel confident and sexier. I really want to thank all my sisters at GIG, who have been my constant support system since May 2018. Coach LT is the most amazing woman who has changed my life forever. I still have a ways to go, but I hope this journey never ends.”
